DSL Falls Below 50% of Total Broadband in Japan during 3Q07

For the quarter ending September 30, 2007, total broadband subscribers in Japan reached 27.763 million, experiencing a slowing growth rate of only 2.1 percent, down from a steady 3 percent in previous quarters. Total DSL subscribers now account for less than 50 percent of total subscribers (48.5 percent), while FTTH represents 38 percent and cable is 13.5 percent. Overall net additions continue to slow as penetration of broadband exceeds 54 percent of total households.  FTTH net additions declined during the quarter to reach 819k for 3Q07.   Total FTTH Subscribers have now reached 10.519 million, DSL was 13.483 million, while cable modem was 3.749 million at the end of 3Q07.
