Telstra partners with 2Wire for Residential Gateway

Telstra has partnered with 2Wire to make two versions of 2Wire gateways available to Telstra customers: a single-port ADSL gateway (the 2Wire HomePortal 2071), and a four-port ADSL Wi-Fi gateway (the 2Wire HomePortal 2701HGV), both of which provide connectivity for both PC and Mac computers. Using the 2Wire Wi-Fi gateway, multiple users can wirelessly connect to a single Internet connection.

“We are committed to providing our customers the newest and most innovative services, maximizing the use of our networks. Both the Wired 1-Port Gateway and the 4-Port Home Wi-Fi Gateway are easy to install and use, demystifying home networking and placing it in reach of all customers, regardless of their technical knowledge,” said Dan Burns, Executive Managing Director, Telstra Network and Technology.

Telstra’s ADSL customers can purchase either the Wired 1-Port Gateway or the 4-Port Home Wi-Fi Gateway, depending on their household need. The Wired 1-Port Gateway includes a single Ethernet LAN entry point whereas the 4-Port Home Wi-Fi Gateway has four Ethernet LAN ports and allows multiple users to share the broadband connection from anywhere in the home.

The 4-Port Home Wi-Fi Gateway includes:

* Microsoft Windows Vista-ready software
* Mac auto-installation
* Enhanced firewall and networking (e.g. easier port mapping for gamers)
* Excellent Wi-Fi coverage through walls and for multilevel homes, using 2Wire HyperG™ wireless technology
* State of the art security using Wireless Protected Access (WPA).

Telstra also provides integrated support through the 2Wire backend Remote Management System. Through this system Telstra support staff can offer remote technical assistance, including the modification of gateway configurations and resetting of passwords when required, resulting in faster resolution of customer support issues.

“We believe Telstra customers will enjoy the flexibility, power, and ease-of-use of their new HomePortal gateways, which open the door to a wide variety of new broadband services,” said Pat Romano, CEO of 2Wire. “Broadband is changing the way we work, play, view the world, and communicate. 2Wire is proud to be helping Telstra improve the broadband experience for its customers.”
