Bowling Green Municipal Utility Selects Alloptic for FTTB
Alloptic announced that Bowling Green
Municipal Utility (BGMU) located in Bowling Green, Kentucky has selected
Alloptic’s Gigabit Ethernet PON solution as their access technology for their
Fiber-to-the-Business network. BGMU operates an “all fiber” network in Bowling
Green and Warren County, Kentucky and offers businesses access to an advanced
broadband network for data services.
“Alloptic’s GEPON solution is an ideal fit for out fiber network,” said Mark
Iverson, BGMU General Manager. “Using a PON system allows us to expand our
network faster and with less expense which allows us to more aggressively pursue
small and medium sized business. Because a PON can be passively split, an
existing fiber can now be used to pick up 32 subscribers where a point-to-point
network would have required that we dedicate two fibers to a single subscriber.
For small and medium sized businesses, the economics are attractive to BGMU and
the performance/price benefit for the customers is excellent. Also, Alloptic’s
wide selection of business ONTs allows us to better match service delivery with
the customer’s intended usage. And, the design of the Alloptic system allows us
to continue to support today’s range of services from legacy T1 to full gigabit
Ethernet service.”
Alloptic provides the industry’s broadest portfolio of optical access network
products. From headend/central office equipment to field passives, optical
network terminals (ONTs) and a variety of enclosures and power options, Alloptic
products leverage industry standard technology and protocols with the benefit of
years of field-hardened experience.
“We are pleased to be working with Bowling Green Municipal Utilities,” said
Shane Eleniak, VP of Marketing and Business Development for Alloptic. “BGMU’s
business focus is exactly the market that brought Alloptic into existence
serving fiber-to-the-business more than eight years ago. It is a vertical market
that we understand very well and have a broad portfolio of products to serve. As
BGMU expands into new verticals, they will benefit from our extensive line of
business, backhaul, residential, and MDU ONTs providing voice (IP and TDM),
Video (IP and two-way RF) and Data (residential and business-grade). Our
customers can rest assured that the Alloptic solution is ready for today and
tomorrow’s applications, services, and customers.”
