OEN's Fision FTTH Service Fizzles Out
Optical Entertainment Network is shutting
down its Fision fiber optic service.
It's not clear how many customers will be affected or when the disconnections
will begin because company officials could not be reached for comment on Friday.
Other than an e-mail, which some customers have received, those who called the
Houston provider of Internet, telephone and digital TV got this recorded
message:
"Due to circumstances beyond our control, Fision will be discontinuing all
services. We advise all customers to seek alternative providers for television,
Internet and phone. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Optical Entertainment Network launched its Fision triple-play package Feb. 23 to
four subdivisions northwest of Houston with about 5,000 potential customers.
At the time, the company told the Chronicle it planned to add 15,000 homes to
its network by year's end.
It's also unclear if customers will be able to keep their phone numbers by
transferring them to new providers.
Analysts noted that laying down fiber can be expensive, especially for small
players that don't have a large subscriber base to spread the cost.
Vendors affected include: Alloptic, PacketFront, Irdeto, Raptor Networks,
Eagle Broadband, Amino, Latens, among others.
