GENBAND Acquires NSN SURPASS hiG Media Gateways
GENBAND announced it has reached a
five-year OEM agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks to be the preferred supplier
of trunking media gateways for their global fixed network market. The companies
have also reached a definitive agreement for GENBAND to acquire Nokia Siemens
Networks’ SURPASS hiG fixed line trunking media gateway product line.
The acquisition of these media gateway products will further strengthen
GENBAND’s position in the fixed network gateway market and expand the company’s
international reach, especially in the APAC and CALA regions. GENBAND will also
attain a team in Brazil, focused on hiG research and development, program- and
product management.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nokia Siemens Networks will continue with its
fixed core networks solution portfolio and provide service and support to its
current installed base and future customers.
“The asset transfer is part of Nokia Siemens Networks’ strategy to focus on core
competencies and through partnering strengthen our fixed core network solution
portfolio,” said Jürgen Walter, head of Nokia Siemens Networks’ Converged Core
Business Unit. “Combining both R&D organizations is a great way to improve our
competitiveness whilst optimizing synergies in this area. GENBAND’s expertise in
Media Gateways will enable us to offer customers a broader range of products for
this important market segment.”
“There is tremendous strategic value for our company to partner with one of the
largest telecommunications equipment providers in the world,” said Charlie Vogt,
GENBAND’s president and CEO. “We are excited to further expand our base of IP
gateways and are committed to evolving today’s central offices by delivering
flexible, cost-effective gateway solutions to service providers around the
globe.”
Both companies are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for both customers
and employees and will continue to explore new market opportunities.
