PacketFront Hits FTTH Shipment Milestone

PacketFront is announcing today at the FTTH Council conference, Paris, that the company has shipped port number 400,000. This means that 400,000 households and companies around the world are connected to FTTH (Fiber-To-The-Home) networks utilizing PacketFront's technology.

Among PacketFront's largest customers are the alternative FTTH carrier Reggefiber in the Netherlands; the city network in Austria's capital city Vienna; the open-access network GothNet in Gothenburg, Sweden; the second carrier in Dubai, Du, that is building the exclusive residential areas Palm Island and Jumeirah Beach; and Affärsverken Karlskrona, Sweden, that last year was awarded a price for the most advanced broadband network in the world.

The key component in PacketFront's broadband solution is the award-winning control and provisioning system BECS. BECS makes it possible for operators to build and run fully automated broadband networks with self-provisioning functionality "on demand". This provides end users with the opportunity to increase capacity and choose services themselves, without having to wait for a third party to carry out the changes.

PacketFront's hardware, Advanced Services Routers (ASR) and Digital Residential Gateways (DRG), are developed to cost-efficiently deliver advanced broadband services over fiber networks. The ASR 5000 series is NPU (Network Processing Unit) based which means that new functionality is easily added without losing performance. Today, PacketFront is also announcing DRG Ease, a modular CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) that allows for an invest-as-you-grow approach for fiber-based broadband networks. This dramatically changes the business model for FTTH networks.
