PacketFront Wins 50K FTTH Project in Netherlands
PacketFront has entered into an agreement
with the Dutch broadband company, Reggefiber BV, regarding the creation of an
open access FTTH network that will cover 50,000-100,000 households in the
province of Brabant in the Netherlands. The agreement spans over 3 years and
Reggefiber's subsidiary, NEM Brabant BV, will build and operate the network.
The key component of the platform that PacketFront supplies to NEM Brabant is
the award-winning control and provisioning system BECS. BECS makes it possible
for operators to build and run fully automated broadband networks with
self-provisioning functionality "on demand". This provides end users with the
opportunity to increase capacity and choose services themselves, without having
to wait for a third party to carry out the changes. PacketFront will also supply
access routers in the ASR series and customer premises equipment in the DRG
series.
The first phase of the project is already in full swing, and includes about
10,000 connections in the towns of Geldrop and Mierlo. Very soon, the next phase
will begin with about 18,000 connections in Helmond-Brandevoort, Valkenswaard
and Best.
"We are very happy and proud to be a partner to Reggefiber for this significant
project," says Martin Thunman, CEO of PacketFront. "The automated broadband
solution, powered by BECS, will allow Reggefiber to scale the network with a
very low operational cost structure."
The NEM Brabant FTTH network will cover a number of communities in the province
of Brabant. Most of these communities are located near the city of Eindhoven and
the town of Nuenen, where two of the first and most innovative FTTH networks in
the Netherlands are operational, both using PacketFront's technology. The new
network of NEM Brabant will have a very similar structure and will offer similar
services and benefits to end users.
